How to save chat history
WhatsApp automatically creates a backup of your chats and saves them to your phone's memory on a daily basis. Depending on your settings, you can also periodically back up your WhatsApp chats to Google Drive. If you uninstall WhatsApp from your phone and want to keep your messages, be sure to save a manual backup of your chats before uninstalling the app.
Create a chat backup
Go to WhatsApp and tap More options > Settings > Chats > Chat backup > Backup.
Transfer chat logs
You can use the Chat Transfer feature to transfer a copy of your chat history either from a group or individual chat.
Open the individual or group chat.
Click More options > More > Move chat.
Decide if you want to move chats with media included.
An email will be generated with a document in text format. Includes chat history.
note:
If you are in Germany, you may need to update WhatsApp to be able to use the chat transfer feature.
If you choose to attach media, the newly sent media will be added as attachments.
When you transfer chats with media, you can send the latest messages with a limit of up to 10,000 messages. In the case of transferring chat history without media, you can send messages with a limit of 40,000 messages. This number is limited due to the maximum size allowed in an email.
